Plainview is a progressive, small town in southeastern Minnesota located 21 miles from Rochester, the region’s major metropolitan city. With a population of 3,340, Plainview offers residents a safe, secure alternative to a more urban setting!
Plainview is 14 miles from hunting, fishing and boating on the Mississippi River. The Whitewater and Zumbro River Valleys are less than five miles from city limits. Carley and Whitewater State Parks are within 15 minutes of Plainview! The city is also located at the western edge of the 2,000,000-square-mile Richard J. Dorer Hardwood Forest, which covers parts of Dakota, Fillmore, Goodhue, Olmsted, Houston, Wabasha and Winona Counties. Plainview residents are 15 minutes away from four recreational areas within the Forest.
Plainview is the agricultural hub of Wabasha County, with major food processors that market locally-grown and produced products nationally and internationally. There are also two companies in Plainview that provide components and services to high-tech manufacturers throughout the U.S.
Corn-on-the-Cob Days in August is a five-day celebration of “Everything Corn.” Starting with a praise fest on the first evening and ending with a grand parade with over 100 entries, Corn-on-the-Cob Days draws up to 6,000 visitors to Plainview.
Plainview offers its plenty of opportunity for fun and adventure. The eight parks offer walking/biking trails, picnic areas, play equipment, tennis courts, softball diamonds and an archery range. The walking trail is one of the most used recreational facilites in the city. The blacktop paved trail is almost a mile in length. There is also a 9-hole regulation length golf course just outside the city limits for folks to enjoy.
