The Ports of Discovery towns of Marquette and McGregor are nestled between the steep river bluffs and the Mighty Mississippi River, on the Great River Road.
Whether it be hiking and camping, relaxing on the Mississippi, grabbing a bite to eat with a great view, or shopping our unique shops, we have endless possibilities!
Spending time on the Iowa Wine Trail? Stop in at the winery in Marquette to sample their award-winning wine, stone-fired pizza, and relax in their wine garden. Perhaps you brought the boat with you. Dock at the city boat ramp and cruise the Mississippi, soaking up the scenic river bluffs. Is hiking more your liking? Effigy Mounds National Monument features miles of trails that wind past burial mounds of indigenous peoples, culminating at Hanging Rock, which overlooks the Mississippi River. Feeling lucky? Drop in at the casino and try your hand at one of the tables or other game of chance.
Driving south to McGregor, you will pass a marina, with houseboat and pontoon rentals available for you to enjoy the “Mighty ‘Sip” at your leisure. How about taking a guided river tour? Once in McGregor, you’ll find shops on Main Street and buildings dating back to the 1800s still standing, inviting you in with their charm. Take the drive to one of the most beautiful spots in the state of Iowa, Pikes Peak State Park.
After a fun-filled day, the bed and breakfasts or our local motels welcome you home, where you can relax and unwind in either river town. We have many restaurants in both towns that serve up mouth-watering home cooked dishes guaranteed to satisfy your appetite.
