Deep in the peaceful valleys and high atop the ridges of the Westby area are breathtaking vistas, in what is known as the Driftless Area of the Hidden Valleys Region. This is where you can have outdoor fun in every season, find arts in abundance, and history on display. The area’s diverse local arts and crafts, ethnic culture, the silent sports of fly-fishing, biking, hiking and canoeing, sighting bald eagles, and the people that you will be inspired by are just a few reasons why this is the heart of the Driftless Area.
Westby offers something for every type of visitor to enjoy. Within a short stroll are a number of antique shops, a store that offers beautiful Scandinavian wares, and a unique art studio/shop. Our lively downtown also reflects its Norwegian heritage, down-home cooking, and the creamery offers tasty local cheeses, yogurt, and butter. Also found here are a number of Amish shops and farms available for visiting. Lodging can be found at historic inns, quaint cottages, and motels, and for entertainment, there’s golf and bowling.
Westby celebrates its Scandinavian heritage with two famous festivals. The Syttende Mai celebration on the weekend closest to Norway’s May 17 Constitution Day, and the winter Snowflake Ski Jumping Tournament, which attracts a large international field of competitors and is one of North America’s premier ski jumping events.
